In July 2021, HARA was ecstatic to announce the launch of the Pancasila Ginger Project. Now, 4 months later, it has expanded into a national wide women empowerment movement. Let us introduce you to Perempuan Tani Harapan Rakyat!
Better known as PERTAHARA, it is a women empowerment movement that implements crowd planting activities based on a transparent and traceable agribusiness model.
The main actors of the PERTAHARA Ecosystem remains the same as the Pancasila Ginger Project, which are female farmers (now known as PERTAHARA farmers), HARA Agripreneurs and stakeholders. In PERTAHARA also embraces inclusivity in all forms. Every individual –regardless of their age and physical condition– are welcome to join PERTAHARA and become agripreneurs, who also acts as agents of change.

What does PERTAHARA entails?

One fundamental value that sets PERTAHARA apart from Pancasila Ginger Project is the mission to accelerate the digitalization of farmers and the agricultural sector. This digital penetration to rural areas is facilitated through the of the PERTAHARA application. The application will help automate the process of registration for agripreneurs and PERTAHARA Farmers and help make ginger cultivation processes easier by collecting their information into one database. Some key features on the application include registration, ordering, and monitoring dashboard. The agripreneurs will also have a crucial role in providing socialization for themselves and the PERTAHARA farmers to increase digital literacy.
What does this mean exactly?
It means that PERTAHARA is not simply a movement that helps female farmers and other individuals in the bottom communities, but it also gives them agency to support and develop themselves in the agricultural ecosystem that we are trying to build through a profit sharing model.
Fundamentally, PERTAHARA tackles several sustainable developmental issues, such as addressing remaining poverty and reducing inequalities, accelerating progress in gender equality, strengthening governance and institutional capacity, and promoting rural development and food security.
PERTAHARA will be addressing these issues by providing the PERTAHARA farmers with the necessary equipment (ginger buds, soil, and polybags), access to agronomists –who will then assist them in practicing good agricultural practices, access to direct offtakers, and access to financial support. All of these are crucial in facilitating the PERTAHARA farmers to gain additional income.
